The City of Lakewood, a municipality of the State of Colorado, has provided Head Start services to eligible children and their families since the fall of 2000 as a grantee. Lakewood Head Start is an integral part of the division of Family Services in the department of Community Resources.
The city offers center-based programming to all 131 children. Four of the classrooms operate as single session classrooms, 5 days per week, 1 of these offers full-day childcare before and after the Head Start hours. The remaining two centers operate as double sessions and offer programming 4 days per week. The students are scheduled to receive at least 160 days of programming in the single session classrooms and at least 128 days in the double sessions. The full day operates year round and offers at least 180 days of service.
