When your child enters the Head Start program we perform a number of health and development screens including vision and hearing tests and then create an individual performance plan. We use this plan to track your child’s health and progress in the classroom three times per year.

Head Start nurtures the entire child – providing a hot meal each day and helping the family arrange for medical services when needed. Staff members have early childhood education backgrounds and will give your child individual attention. Teachers use The Creative Curriculum as the framework for classroom lessons.

Founded in 1965 the federally funded Head Start program offers safe and consistent child development services for children age three and four years. To enroll you need to meet federal eligibility guidelines.

Children learn through experience. In addition to math reading science and art skills Head Start students are taught about cooperation problem solving and responsibility.

Each classroom has a daily schedule posted in a child-friendly format. This helps establish the consistency young children need and gives them a more secure feeling because they are in control of their daily experiences and can predict the sequence of events.

Throughout the day each child explores a variety of learning areas including: blocks dramatic play table toys art writing center math science language and literacy sensory table music and movement and fine and gross motor skills.

Fine motor activities encourage the development of small muscles. Fine motor skills are attained through activities involving picking up objects putting objects into containers drawing painting tearing and cutting paper pouring self-feeding etc.

Gross motor activities promote the development of large muscles. These activities include running jumping climbing crawling and throwing.
