River Road Church Preschool Development Center is an
accredited program sponsored by River Road Church,
Baptist. The school was established in 1972, as a
Christian outreach to children and their families. The
school has been an accredited and licensed center since
1986.
The preschool is accredited by the
National Accreditation Commission, a division
of the National Association of Child Care
Professionals.
The school is licensed by
the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of
Social Services, Licensing Division.
Children, ages 3 through 5, who are attending River
Road Church Preschool Development Center are
eligible to attend the Extended Day programs. Morning
and afternoon sessions are offered. Children who
participate in this program will bring their lunch and stay
from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or from 12:00 noon until
3:30 p.m. This is a low-key program in which children
participate in group activities, rest time and outside play,
thus allowing parents an additional three hours to pursue
their activities.
This program is for infants and toddlers – children under
the age of two. These children are exposed to stimulating
and developmentally appropriate activities for their age in
a nurturing and caring environment. The activities
provided help to develop the children’s musical
awareness, creative movement, social skills, cognitive
learning and physical skills. Each class has two teachers
with 8 -10 children, depending on the age of the children.
Priority for these classes is given to those children with
siblings in the Developmental and Preschool programs
and to children of church members.
*2011/12 tuition is approximately $34.00 per day.
The Junior Kindergarten is a class offered to children who
will be eligible for kindergarten, but whose parents are
electing for them to wait another year before attending.
This class, which is center based, provides hands-on
experiences that are uniquely challenging to five year olds
who are growing in confidence, maturity, responsibility
and sociability. The class meets five mornings a week.

River Road Church offers an inclusive program for children as a service to the parents and children in our church and in
our community. The school, established in 1972, provides a place where children can grow in their unique way, as a
child of God, experiencing opportunities that will help them develop to their greatest potential.
The programs set up are developmentally appropriate for children on each of the age levels. The program for each
age group varies according to the physical, intellectual, social and emotional maturity of the children in order to
meet the needs of each group. Realizing that children learn best by exploring, discovering and experiencing, a hands-on,
center-based approach is used in each classroom.
The children are taught in a warm and caring atmosphere,
by teachers who are experienced and have their degrees.
The teachers and their assistants provide the nurturing the
children need as well as the stimulating experiences to
promote growth.
The curriculum incorporates several unique programs, which are designed to take advantage of the windows of
opportunity for learning in early childhood. These programs include the following:
A gross motor development program for large
muscle development
A music program which teaches Spanish
A guidance program which helps to teach social
skills, using the problem solving approach
