Hinsdale Community Preschool was founded in 1942 and is operated as a parent cooperative. Being part of a parent cooperative can be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life as a parent. In a parent cooperative, parents benefit from being able to be an active part in the classroom, allowing parents to gain first hand knowledge of their childs learning style and witness how she/he reacts in a social environment. In addition, parents can initiate a strong, positive connection between home and school, which is vital in the years to come. Parents can also enter into a family social network, meeting and working with other parents for the betterment of the school, which is enjoyable and rewarding for both parent and child.

We believe that children learn best when they are actively participating in hands-on, interactive experiences. In the classrooms, you see children that are busy moving about, exploring, talking, creating, and actively involved in meaningful experiences.
Our play based curriculum is developed by our staff using the Illinois State Standards for Early Childhood, the Creative Curriculum. All of our classroom activities reflect the teachings of the early childhood theorists of Erickson, Vigotsky, Piaget and many others. Our lesson plans are posted outside our classroom doors for parents to view as well as e-mailed to our parents on a weekly basis.
We utilize the curriculum of Jolly Phonics, Handwriting Without Tears, and several components of Everyday Math to prepare our preschoolers for kindergarten.
Our academic curriculum is weaved into our play based philosophy. The children participate in all developmental domains of learning. Fine motor, language development, cognition (pre-reading and pre-math), self-help and social-emotional skills are practiced in each area of the room.
