The Calverton Lower School provides a challenging and nurturing environment for young children to learn and grow in preschool through fifth grade. Through exploration and discovery, students are given opportunities for creative, critical, and independent thought and expression. In recognition of the various developmental differences in children, learning is based on the active involvement of the students in individual and cooperative activities that are both teacher-directed and student-initiated. The Lower School communityincluding teacher, student, and familyfocuses on the total development of the child in a values-oriented setting, where each child is encouraged to practice and value such personal qualities as honesty, trust, and mutual respect. The Lower School recognizes the importance of a working partnership between the School and home, which reinforces the value of the child as an individual and as a member of the Calverton community.
The academic program in the Lower School is strong and continually evolving. It includes language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, music, computer, library, physical education, environmental education, art, and foreign language.
The caring atmosphere of The Calverton School is extended to the hours before school from 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM and after school from 3:30 PM 6:00 PM Our experienced staff offers you peace of mind and the assurance that your child is safe, comfortable, and engaged in worthwhile activities during our quality Extended Day-Morning and Afternoon Program.
The morning tuition includes continental breakfast and supervised activities and can be included in all payment plans. The afternoon tuition includes a nutritious snack, activities, including arts and crafts, inside and outside free play, and supervised homework. Space is limited, and priority is given to children who enroll on a full-time basis.
