The Montessori approach offers a broad vision of education. It is designed to help children construct their world from the inside out as they progress through the maturation process into adulthood. Drawing its principles from the natural stages of development the Montessori approach is flexible and adaptable to the individual child regardless of the level of ability learning style or social maturity.

Classrooms provide a prepared environment for children to experience their natural drive to work and learn. An inherent love of learning is fostered by the trained adults in the environment. As children work they develop concentration motivation persistence and discipline. Children work at their own pace and rhythm guided by the adult who is trained to follow the lead of the child.

Montessori classrooms incorporate a three-year age group which allows for both individual and social development. More experienced children share their learning with those who are new to the group. Each childs unique personality is encouraged and respected as an important member of the community. Children develop an appreciate for the world and tolerance for diversity as they become responsible human beings and active members of a harmonious community.

The role of the Montessori teacher is one of guide and observer whose goal is to intervene less and less. This promotes self-discipline and confidence. Knowing when to observe and how and when to intervene is a skill that teacher develops during their training.
