The mission of Mackintosh Academy is to provide a stimulating and enjoyable environment for the gifted child that promotes academic excellence and intercultural understanding. Our goal is to maximize learning potential and promote development of the whole child. We want our students to mature into whole, healthy human beings who are confident about their unique gifts and their place in the world as worthwhile contributors, who have keen minds and compassionate hearts and who contribute their special gifts to a world that needs them. We are committed to an academic program that emphasizes a passion for life-long learning. In pursuing this goal, we strive to ensure that each child develops socially, emotionally, creatively, physically, and cognitively in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Gifted children require a unique educational setting to foster a love of learning, the opportunity to maximize their potential, and a community which is sensitive to the development of the whole child. Over the past thirty years, Mackintosh Academy has gained recognition in gifted education by fostering a challenging and rich academic curriculum that is greatly enhanced with experiences in visual arts, theatre, music, physical education, world languages, and technology.
We believe a child who is academically prepared with knowledge is only partially equipped to make a meaningful contribution to society and the world. We cultivate a community for the gifted child that is acutely aware of their social and emotional sensitivities and appropriately nurtures them. We believe that traits such as being empathic and compassionate towards others, listening with understanding, hearing different points of view, negotiating, communicating, resolving conflicts, and taking responsibility for behavior are critical in the development of our children’s social and leadership skills.
We believe that learning does not occur in isolation, but rather in a community of learners, who are accepting of one another’s feelings opinions, and beliefs, and understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
We know that students in the 21st century are faced with the challenges and opportunities of learning about an interconnected world where knowledge is constantly developing. Our educational philosophy prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning through engaged inquiry and reflection.
