There is a perception in education that academic excellence can only be attained through a conventional educational setting. We at the Schoolhouse believe differently. We know that a balanced program, combining both traditional and progressive instructional methodologies better supports the learning style of all children and optimizes their achievement.
Every time a prospective parent or a visitor spends time on our campus, we hear a consistent message: Theres something special about this place theres a vibe that I feel. It comes from the relationships that develop between teacher and child, the level of enthusiasm and engagement our children exhibit in learning, and especially their self-assured disposition.
It is felt through the closeness that permeates every relationship here. From teachers to students, from staff to parents, there is a profound, shared sense of mutual caring and energized learning. This type of environment provides a vital underpinning to the education that our children experience every day.
Our philosophy is that children thrive academically in a nurturing environment which provides them challenges and encourages them to take risks.
There is a lot of talk these days in the educational community about a hidden curriculum, the unstated cultural and social norms that students learn alongside their formal training. These are the values they absorb from the experience of simply living within the school community, along with what they learn at home, that shape their outlook on life. at the Schoolhouse, we see a hidden curriculum that teaches our children to embrace their individuality, to do and be their best, and to celebrate the differences among people. It is a curriculum that teaches children to respect each other and challenges them to be curious and to care about the world in which they live.
We see our success in the children that leave us ready for their next challenge. Our students move on to college-preparatory secondary schools, to schools for the arts, and everything in between. They continue to amaze us in the way they care for each other, strive for academic challenges, and their confidence to fully be themselves.
These are students who will change our world.
