The Community Mennonite Early Learning Center is licensed by the department of Children and Family Services to serve 210 children between the ages of six weeks and kindergarten age.
We provide care for infants, toddlers, two-year-olds, three-year-olds, four-year-olds, and five year olds. We provide an all day learning program from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Monday through Friday for low-income families who are eligible through the Department of Human Services. We accept full pay families and families who are eligible for the subsidized program through the Illinois Department of Human Services.
The Community Mennonite Early Learning Center is incorporated and operated by a Board of Directors, which is made up of church and community representatives and meets every third Thursday of the month.

UNITY: We encourage children to help each other. We support them in tying each other’s shoes, zipping each other’s coats, and by letting older children show newer/younger children “the ropes.”
LEADERSHIP: We encourage children to decide things for themselves. We support children in making choices, in problem solving, and in understanding the consequences of their actions. We want children to learn to be decision-makers and encourage all children to develop leadership ability.
COLLECTIVE WORK AND RESPONSIBILITY: We encourage children to work together to make life better, not only for themselves but also in relationship to others. We support them in doing chores, setting the table, and cleaning up by putting toys and materials away. We also participate in community and group projects.
PURPOSE: We encourage children to develop new skills and learn about differences in themselves and in others. We read books and sing songs and eat food from different cultures. We want to expose children to a variety of learning experiences regarding the differences and commonality of other cultures so they will have a better understanding of their world and become more tolerant. We support special activities and projects during Black History Month, and help children understand the celebration of Kwaanza, Channuka,Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, as well as other significant cultural events.
CREATIVITY: We encourage children to be creative. We support them in dancing, making their own works of art, sharing music, and in using their imagination.
