The mission is to promote the academic and social-emotional success of young children by providing full-spectrum educational and support services.
How Does Tatanka Academy Fulfill Its Mission?
- Tatanka teachers are committed to supporting academic and social/emotional success in elementary students.
- Tatanka leadership is committed to providing full-service education and family support.
- Tatanka operates a longer school year 44 weeks (including 5 week summer session) with convenient school hours (10 am 4:45pm) in a neighborhood-based location.
- Tatankas classrooms have fewer children and more adult attention than traditional public schools. In the 2010-2011 school year, the average class size is 15 students and the student to teacher ratio is 10:1.
- Tatanka students form learning communities by wearing uniforms and engaging in multi-grade activities.
- Tatanka parents join in a variety of activities that support their students including monthly family nights and parent education.
