Lccated in beautiful historic Mount Dora Florida Montessori at Roseborough is proud to offer a rich educational environment for the children of Lake County. We offer several programs for ages 3 months to 15 years. Our instructors are AMI certified (Association Montessori Internationale) and our campus is designed to ensure that your child has the opportunity to become an independent self-actualized person ready to take on the world. In the Montessori environment children develop the skills of learning not only for school but also for life.
Montessori at Roseborough follows the educational principals of Dr. Maria Montessori. In addition to offering a strong and enriched academic program Montessori at Roseborough provides children with skills that foster independence self-discipline and a sense of responsibility. The children discover a love for learning that will be with them their whole lives.
Montessori at Roseborough Inc. is a non-profit corporation and an AMI Recognized School. Association Montessori Internationale was established in 1929 by Dr. Montessori to protect and preserve the authenticity of her work with children.
Montessori at Roseborough began as the Montessori N.E.S.T. (Nurturing Environment Specialized for Toddlers) in Leesburg FL in 1983. The intent was to inform support and empower through classes in: birth preparation infant massage and bonding mothers and their babies classes in parenting along with a women’s support group. Until 1994 the center provided an infant-young childrens community for children age one to three years of age.The importance of honoring the need to be nurtured in order for one to have the energy to nurture others especially family members was emphasized.
As the center grew the N.E.S.T. was moved to Mount Dora in 1994 and with the assistance of a dedicated staff added a Children’s House for ages three to six. In August of 1996 the center began an elementary program to serve children from six to twelve years of age. In 2009 the school expanded and moved to the Roseborough Building in Downtown Mount Dora. The renovations allowed us to create a green and sustainable environment where our children can thrive. The school now serves over 130 students in Central Florida (Lake Orange and Volusia Counties). The school has grown to two Infant Communities three Primary rooms two Elementary rooms and an Adolescent Program that will be starting in the fall of 2010.
Dr. Montessoris philosophy was based on the principle that all children naturally develop in stages called planes of development. From birth to age 6 children are in the first plane where they are sensorial explorers who absorb the world around them. Children in the second plane ages 6 through 12 become conceptual explorers and abstract thinkers. They are eager to learn and experience the world and their role in it. Around the age of 12+ students transition to the third or adolescent plane in which they are humanistic explorers eager to understand their place in society and the contribution they can make to it.
Montessori classrooms are known as prepared environments with scientifically designed materials. Because children develop individually they work at their own pace. Classrooms operate on three-year cycles allowing children to form close relationships and engage in collaborative learning. Each cycle provides the children with the consistency of the same teacher within the same setting.The role of the trained adult is to act as a link between the children and their environment.
Parents are required to attend parent meetings and encouraged to visit their childs class to further their understanding of their childs experience in a Montessori setting.
