The New Canaan Public Schools Preschool Program is a special place where young children
come together to learn and play in an environment designed to stimulate growth in all
areas of development. This program formerly known as the NCPS Opportunity Center has
been a part of the New Canaan Public School system since 1989. It is currently located at West
Elementary School. There are two classes: one is Ms. Meghans class and the other Ms. Cathy and
Ms. Daniellas class. As part of the West school community, preschoolers have an opportunity to
participate in numerous school wide activities. The director and teachers stay in close contact
with parents to ensure the success of each child.

The NCPS Preschool Program offers a childcentered approach that encourages children to
actively explore their environment in ways that are relevant, challenging, and designed to
promote independent learning and growth across all areas of development. In keeping with the
State of CT Department of Educations Preschool Framework, the teachers also use a literaturebased
curriculum which incorporates a variety of
activities related to popular childrens books.
