Preschool in Oakland, CA 94619
The first building on the site where Daisy Child Development Center stands today was a coach house that was part of the facilities for Mills College. This nineteenth century building was replaced around sixty years ago by a large home. In the 1970s this home was transformed by Dorothy Minglin into the Daisy Nursery School.
In 1991 Eva Barahona (then the assistant director of Rose Street Child Care Center in Berkeley) and her husband at the time Mark Stewart partnered with another couple to purchase the school from Dorothy. Eva and Mark Stewart became full owners in 1996. As of June 12 2007 Eva is the sole owner. Mark is now pursuing a nursing degree.
Today Daisy is licensed for 71 children ranging in age from 18 months old to 5 years. The toddler program (the Star Room) serves children between eighteen months and 2 years nine months. The preschool program consists of three classrooms. The Rainbow Room Galaxy Room and Cloud Room. These classrooms serve children 2 years 9 months to 5 years old.
