Little Oaks Montessori follows the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, which is practiced all over the world, among rich and poor children alike, within a wide variety of cultures. Little Oaks Montessori is a member of the International Montessori Council, the International Montessori Society, and founder of the Council on Montessori Education of Southern Sonoma County.

Montessori is not a religion, and it is not based on a nationality. Rather, it is an approach to educating children that promotes their developing strong powers of concentration, solid hand-eye coordination, full vocabularies, and respect for others and the world around them. It is regrettable that Montessori is thought to provide for only well-to-do children and that it is an expensive sort of schooling. The truth is that Montessori is found all over the world in many humble circumstances, and at very affordable costs.

Because of the monumental iNFLuence on early childhood education that Dr. Maria Montessori contributed to the world, those who chose the 100 most significant persons of the past millennium included an unnamed Montessori student. They chose to portray Montessori education therefore, as one of the world’s most important set of ideas, of the 1000 years from the year 1000 to the year 2000. This testifies to how much her ideas vaulted those concerned with children’s well-being. Her ideas moved the thinking about children into a new era of awareness about the capacities that adults and parents ought to be developing in young children rather than letting children languish as objects of entertainment, or as property.

Montessori education makes a profound statement about why children should not “wait” to learn only in Kindergarten, as if early Preschool experiences would “push” them. We know that a child’s brain and intellectual capacities are nearly fully formed by age 5-in a Montessori school they have the advantage at Little Oaks Montessori of superb guidance from specially trained teachers so that brain and intellectual development satiSFy their early needs, at the age nature meant for them to develop these abilities-not many years later. We do not make children wait to grow as fully as they are able.

If, as parents, you want to commit your energies to enabling your child to join and benefit from a Montessori program, we invite you to consider our school.
