The Dillon Center for Children takes into consideration the combined knowledge-base of many national and international educational organizations when considering best practices.* It provides a safe, structured environment where children can participate in a variety of activities that guide them as they develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, linguistically, and physically towards becoming responsible adults and lifelong learners. The children will be encouraged to investigate, create, discover, and take risks to add to their understanding of their world. Children will be challenged in order to achieve new levels of understanding. They are at the heart of the learning: hands-on and minds-on activities create authentic experiences and allow them to be actively engaged.
The Dillon Center for Children looks to the licensing agency, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to guide interaction and instruction of all the children enrolled. MSDEs curriculum program, known as Maryland State Curriculum (MSC), the Maryland Model for School Readiness, and the Work Sampling System* (WSS), as well as two of MSDEs recommended curriculum programs, Houghton Mifflin* and Creative Curriculum* are key resources at the Dillon Center for Children.
