Dr. Montessori (1870-1952) the first woman to be trained as a physician in Italy developed a comprehensive method of early education based on years of observation and study of young children. Her early experience with children focused on the underprivileged and special needs children at the time. As time passed she was able to apply the many extraordinary means for educating these children toward the education of all children. Many recent innovations in education are based on Dr. Montessori’s principles.
