Preschool in Salinas, CA 93906
In 1964 a group of church mothers wanted a place for their children to play and learnso they started Northminster Presbyterian Church Nursery School. Some years later responding to more stringent state regulationsluding the need for certified teachers the school became Northminster Presbyterian Co-Op Preschool. This program operated successfully for years with a teacher and four parent helpers. This was a good program for years that became great with the hiring of Teacher Terri (Terri Abel-McInnis). When changing family dynamics and economic conditions made it difficult to find parent helpers Teacher Terri decided a traditional preschool was the way to go and hired Teacher Laura (Laura Hunter-Michels) as her full time teaching partner. In 1994 they started a pre-k program they called KinderPrep which was designed for children who were age eligible to attend kindergarten but could benefit from an extra year before entering kindergaten.. In 1996 Teacher Terri left Salinas returned to school and now is a high school vice-principal. Teacher Laura became the site supervisor and hired Teacher Krynda (Lukrynda Michels) as her teaching partner.Teacher Laura has been teaching at Northminster for 21 year and Teacher Krynda has been here 11 year. Teacher Laura is credentialed by the State of California and Teacher Krynda has her Early Childhood Education Certificate from Hartnell College. Both are CPR and first aid trained and certified. They both LOVE their jobs and and are honored that so many parents over the years have chosen Northminster for their child’s first school experience
