Early ON School Readiness Program

You are your child’s first and most important teacher!

What children know before entering school has a great impact on how well they will perform in school and in life. Our mission is to offer activities to support the growth and development of all children and we will continuously create and share ideas as we support our participants. It is our hope that we may continuously work with caregivers and parents as we educate inform strengthen and guide them. It is our hope that you teach the children in your care because you are the childs first and most important teacher!

The classroom is all around and it is

important to recognize teachable moments.

Through the Early ON School Readiness Program participants will learn:

To become change agents for themselves and for their children and the children in their care.

  1. To prepare their children for school as they offer activities that are developmentally
    appropriate for the children.
  2. To advocate on behalf of their community.
  3. To utilize the community networks for the benefit of their families.

Program Objectives:

  • To provide information regarding School Readiness Guidelines (Communication Problem Solving and Life Skills) to community residents parents caregivers teachers and early childhood educators.
  • To promote collaboration between early childhood education providers in public schools and child care centers.

The AVANCE-San Antonio Early ON School Readiness Program targets families with children birth to 5 years old who live and work in City Council Districts 3 4 and 5.

The School Readiness Program Offers:

  • Bi-Monthly educational meetings in three supported elementary schools (Ball Elementary Stonewall-Flanders Elementary and Barkley-Ruiz Elementary).
  • Monthly activity books to support skills such as communication and problem solving.
  • Monthly make-and-take activities to support parent and child interaction.
  • The Family Friends and Neighbors Workshop Classes to provide support to caregivers of children birth to five years old.
  • Referrals to community agencies for assistance with insurance coverage utility assistance food stamps application assistance etc.
  • Distribution and promotion of the School Readiness Guidelines.
  • Participation in community events to promote access to school readiness materials and activities.
    The Early ON School Readiness Program is funded by the City of San Antonio Department of Community Initiatives.
