SFUSD - Junipero Serra Child Development Center Preschool

We affirm that all children at Junipero Serra Child Development Center will have experiences that promote self-reliance, problem solving, a positive disposition for learning, and the knowledge that they can create beauty and order in their own lives. The children take ownership in the site by tending the gardens and creating positively impacts their entire lives.

Junipero Serra Child Development Center has three gardens that the children maintain. We have been a part of A Living Library developed by Bonnie Sherk of Lifeframes and Kathy Truett, former administrator.

Junipero Serra Annex has the distinction of being the only Child Development Center that houses two kindergarten classes during the school year. Consequently, the Site Manager has written all grants to include these forty children from the elementary school. The kindergarteners have art and gardening classes weekly. All garden and art experiences can be linked to the California State Standards.
