Preschool in San Jose, CA 95127
East Hills Preschool is a parent owned and operated non-profit corporation. It represents an exciting and unique endeavor in the field of early childhood education. The purpose of this corporation is to provide quality pre-elementary education for children. Its goal is to provide for the very young children in this community a superior learning opportunity within a stimulating and loving environment.
East Hills Preschool began as Story Road Preschool in 1973. Prior to 1973 Conchita Lizardi and Dorothy Amburer discovered that the eastern area of San Jose did not offer many preschools for early childhood education. They had a dream of opening a preschool with a quality child-centered education. In September 1973 Story Road Preschool opened its doors with attendance of nine children.
In 1977 Dorothy sold her half of the partnership to Conchita and moved to her East Coast home. Conchita experienced many limitations and frustrations with the preschool and decided to close its doors as she could not ensure the quality of education she wished. Thus in March 1979 the parents were given notice to find an alternative school for their children.
The parents found that there were very few preschools available and began to meet as a group in hopes of keeping the school open. In May/June 1979 Conchita agreed to stay under the conditions that the school develop its own identity obtain a non-profit status and maintain quality eductation. The school was to be a partnership between the teachers and parents and it was to be guided by a 15 member Board of Directors.
In September 1979 East Hills Preschool was born and it continues to be a viable educational facility.
