Seattle Learning Center

Preschool in Seattle, WA 98109

The Seattle Learning Center was established by Lily Talley in 2009. After having a good look at the preschool and childcare centers around the area, she decided to establish her own school that not only pursues education but also physical fitness for the kids. The school is passionate about: instilling a creative learning environment, developing childrens social/emotional, physical and cognitive skills, and encouraging children to be physically fit and active at an early age.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Seattle Learning Center is to provide an exciting learning environment for preschool age children. Our focus is to provide stimulating early care using art and physical fitness to help children develop a healthy mind as well as a healthy body. We aim to mould children to be life-long learners and establish a cooperative relationship between parents and staff.

Seattle Learning Center is committed to:

  • Providing your children safe and quality care
  • Providing stimulating, educational, creative, and fun activities
  • Encouraging physical fitness and developing an active and healthy lifestyle
  • Serving healthy and nutritious meals

Our Center is proud of its physical activity program. We offer PE lessons that include gymnastics, dance, and games. The PE lessons will develop you childrens gross motor skills and also teach your children team work, sportsmanship, discipline, and respect. Research has shown that exercise improves learning. We believe that teaching children how to exercise at a young age will help enhance their learning now and the future. (read Dr John Rateys book Spark for more information on how exercise can improve learning)

We at SLC are also committed to serving healthy and nutritious meals. We plan our menu monthly to make sure that your children will have a balance diet and plenty of energy for our activities. We understand that some kids have trouble eating the healthy stuff such as fruits and vegetables. Our aim at the Center is to expose kids to these types of food along with their peers. A lot of the children are not so picky anymore when they see their good friends eating healthy food. While we will occasionally have some sweets and treats, our aim is to get the healthy alternative. (For example, sweets that have less corn syrup in them). We also aim to teach kids that sweets should be eaten in moderation.

We at Seattle Learning Center want to create an early childhood program where creativity and physical activity is encouraged. We want children to be excited about learning and have fun in school. We want to create an environment where the parents are involved with their childrens education.

We believe that children are naturally creative and needs to be in an environment where this is encouraged. At the same time, children are also energetic and active. We developed our curriculum to cater for the natural abilities and personality of children. This is the stage of life where they are curious, adventurous, and explorative. We want to make the most of these characteristics whilst learning. We want to have children that love to go to school to interact, be active and learn. Unfortunately, for most people, they entered a school that has a rigid structure where the goal is to have children sit down and listen. We at SLC are passionate about your childrens creativity and physical fitness. Although we think that children need routine and discipline, we do not require them to sit still and just listen. Our school encourages interaction with the teachers, parents and children.

We know that our program is not for everyone. However, if you are a parent who wants the best for your child, who wants them to be creative and active learners, then please contact us. We are looking for families who believe that a new approach to education is what their children need. It will require an enormous amount of resourcefulness, will and commitment from the staff, parents and children. However, we strongly believe that we are creating a special school that puts the education and care of the child as its top priority.
