Accotink Academy Preschool

Accotink Academy Preschool was founded by owner and CEO Elaine McConnell in 1964 in West Springfield Va. Mrs. McConnells educational visions launched a program that has withstood the test of over 46 years of success and innovation in the field of preschool/kindergarten education.

The success of the program was immediate with the enrollment growing from 40 the first year to over 400 within a 3 year period. Mrs. McConnells advanced curriculum was evident when students from Accotink Academy Preschool enter the highly rated Fairfax County School System well ahead of their peers and classmates in the subjects of reading and math. In 1967 Mrs. McConnell opened the first school for learning disabled students in the Washington DC/Northern Metropolitan Area. With no courses being offered in the colleges at that time for teachers of the learning disabled, she developed her own curriculum using specialists from the medical and psycho-educational fields as advisors. To continue her love for education, Mrs. McConnell branched out her successful pre-school and opened Accotink Academy by the Sea in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida in 1997. That program still exists today (2011) and continues to serve the community with quality kindergarten and preschool as well as 1-3rd grades. Research conducted by Accotink Academy over the years has strengthened Mrs. McConnells theories that the pre-school years are the most vital in the learning process. If training is introduced early in a childs life, enhancement of skills can be accomplished. Today Mrs. McConnell is still actively involved in all 4 of her schools.
