PRESCHOOL – SCHOOL AGE –
Grand Traverse Academy’s mission is that learning will add quality to our lives and each student will develop competence caring and citizenship. Character Education and Choice Theory are taught modeled and assessed. Students are taught to build good relationships in a loving safe environment. All students and staff work together in a manner that is kind and respectful.

At Grand Traverse Academy we believe that all children can learn and therefore implement the Quality Schools Concepts of Dr. William Glasser which include total learning competence. Students make continuous progress through a mastery-learning curriculum with advancement based on student performance. A comprehensive reading program has been successful in improving students’ reading. In grades 3-8 an average of 97% of the Academy students read at or above grade level. All students begin learning Spanish in Kindergarten and continue with Spanish lessons in all classrooms. The Academy curriculum also includes developmentally appropriate practices including Integrated Visual Learning (IVL).

The students’ education is further enriched through activities offered at the academy such as cross country track volleyball basketball nature/outdoor hiking band choir and other courses that enhance learning. Parent support and participation is welcomed and encouraged at Grand Traverse Academy.
