Montessori education is both a philosophy of child development and an educational system for guiding such development.

Dr. Maria Montessori believed that no human being is educated by another person. He must do it himself or it will never be done. Since young children posses unusual sensitivity and mental powers for absorbing and learning from the environment the teacher can assume an objective role; showing the child the tools for learning then allowing and encouraging him to learn at his own pace.

In a Montessori classroom you will notice the variety of apparatus and materials available to the child. The children are free to gravitate towards work which stimulates and satisfies their interest. ( Freedom within limits.) The design of the materials are self-correcting. The role of the teachers are to guide and help directing the flow of classroom activities.
