A typical day of class consists of about 30 minutes of “Free Play” where the children can play with the numerous toys at preschool. During this time, there is normally crafts and games set up that go along with the lesson for that day. After free play, we move on to “Circle Time”. During this time we sing songs, read a story, talk about whatever shape, color, etc. we are learning about that day, and then we do the weather. Whatever child has the “Working Parent” for that day gets to do the calendar and dress our frog.
Throughout the school year, we teach your children about the alphabet, numbers and counting, colors, shapes, the weather, and manners. More importantly, we teach them to be in a school setting and to follow directions and treat their teachers and others with respect.
We also try to do a lot of fun things for the kids throughout the year. We have parties to celebrate the holidays-parents sign up to help plan them. We make sure to give each child a “Special Day” to bring in a treat and celebrate his or her birthday. On top of the usual holidays, we also have special days like Friendship Soup Day, Grandparent’s Day, Dad’s Day, a Teddy Bear Picnic, and Pajama Day.
Each year we have a float in Villa Grove’s Homecoming Parade that the children get to ride on. There are many field trips we go on throughout the year. Some field trips we have been on in the past include: Pop’s Ice Cream Shop, Negangard Pumpkin Patch, a tour of Villa Grove Subway(we make our own sandwiches!), a PRIVATE viewing of a movie at Villa Grove Gemini Cinemas, a tour of Flight Star and the inside of a airplane, the Children’s Museum in Champaign, and a PRIVATE viewing of the U of I Jazz Band. at the end of the year we also take the four-year-olds on a tour of Villa Grove Schools where they get to see the kindergarten classrooms, lunch room, library, and meet the principal so your child can get acquainted with where they will be going to school the following year!
At the end of the year we also have a very special Preschool Graduation for the four-year-old class who will be moving on to kindergarten.
