CCDC is conveniently located in Westport, Connecticut in a former elementary school facility on seven acres of property leased from the Town. We are open twelve months a year from 7:15 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. We enroll sixty-three children in five different programs. Our organization is non-profit and governed by a Board of Directors representing current families, staff and members of the community. We embrace a philosophy that is child and family centered. Our curriculum is play-based and developmentally appropriate.
Decisions about activities presented to children emerge from the highest standards in the field of early childhood care and education and are negotiated by the expressed interests, passions and contributions of children. We recognize that the relationships that children form with teachers, peers and most-importantly their families determine the nature of their experience.
Children are provided with opportunities to play and learn in their classrooms, large indoor play areas and outside on our playground and surrounding fields. Classrooms environments and daily schedules are designed for children of various ages and adapted as needed to support their growth, development and expressed needs. Teachers provide supervision, support and facilitation to children as they explore, investigate, discover and learn.

Emphasis is placed on the quality of the interactions among the staff and children and on the developmental appropriateness of the curriculum. The programs are designed to allow different age groups of children to develop in a secure homelike environment responsive to their changing abilities and needs. Goals for children include social and personal growth and overall competence in early skill development.
Interactions between staff and children are characterized by warmth, mutual respect and affection. Daily communication between staff and parents insures that each childs program will be in his/her best interest, providing continuity between home and school. Staff-to-child ratios are kept low to accommodate individual needs.
In developing curriculum at CCDC teachers are guided by the State of Connecticuts Guidelines for the Development of Infant & Toddler Early Learning (in press) and Preschool Curriculum Framework as well as The Creative Curriculum. These tools allow teachers to use their observations of children to adapt curriculum ideas to meet individual and program goals. These standards help us define what children should know, understand and be able to do and inform our decisions about what, how and when to teach young children the skills and knowledge they need for success in school and in life. We are committed to Developmentally Appropriate Practice as defined by National Association for the Education of Young Children.
