Maspeth Town Hall PS 229

Maspeth Town Hall is a community-based organization serving the needs of Maspeth Woodside Elmhurst and the surrounding communities. The programs offered at Town Hall cover academics sports arts and cultural activities for toddlers through senior citizens. Town Hall also operates several satellite after-school programs including a large program at PS 229 in Woodside. Since January of 2000 Town Hall has partnered with The Emanual Kaplan School to offer a high quality after-school program that supports the academic physical cultural and social needs of the enrolled children. Originally opened with funding from The After-School Corporation the program has grown and evolved over the years. The program is now supported by the New York City Out-of-School Time grant as well as a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. The program serves 250 children a day providing a safe and healthy environment homework assistance academic enrichment and remediation exposure to the Arts physical activity and intergenerational social interaction. The staff consists of professional and non-professional staff including a large number of college students who are pursuing careers in Education. This facility is authorized to administer over-the-counter topical ointments only
