Testimonials
Susan G. from Charlotte, NC My daughter felt comfortable with Ellen almost immediately. Ellen is cheerful, patient, and calm. She rewards my daughter's efforts with praise and is always encouraging. The lessons move quickly, though there is plenty of repetition when needed, and Ellen is able to 'switch gears' to another approach when necessary to help make my daughter's learning successful. My daughter is sometimes reluctant to accept help, and would love to be in control at all times, but Ellen is able to keep her cooperation throughout the lesson. She is obviously intelligent and well educated for the work of teaching, and she seems to enjoy working with my daughter. She is creative, organized and flexible. I'm very glad we found her. Her studio is downtown, but not hard to get to, and she has a parking space in the building garage for her students, which is a big help. There is a place for parents to stay close by to hear but not to intrude into the lessons.
Helene T. from Charlotte, NC Ellen has been tutoring my 1st grader who has ADHD and struggles with letter recognition & phonics. Ellen has been combining tablet games, songs, reading and block letters (among other things) for multi-sensory learning. After 1 month, my son was tested at school and gained 2 levels on the reading scale (1/2 a quarter woohoo!). His penmanship and spelling are also improving. We still have a ways to go before O. is fully on level, but he is gaining confidence and now practices reading wherever he is, like signs on the road and packages. As a Mom who saw her son increasingly shut down because he could not participate in activities at school, this is very encouraging. Ellen is a wonderful teacher, being patient and ready to incorporate things he is interested in to keep him engaged. Ellen is also flexible working with us when we have conflicts in our schedule.
Carol M. from Charlotte, NC My Grandson was diagnosed as Dyslexic. Ellen R. specialized in tutoring children with dyslexia and reading problems. He enjoyed his sessions with her, the office was very calming, quiet and comfortable. He has shown great improvement reading since her sessions. I would use her again and I plan to after he is reevaluated in his new grade. Excellent tutor.
