Learn Biology from a Biologist: by Training and at Heart.

Hello!
I have been in love with biology since childhood, encouraged by my parents and teachers. What followed was a single-minded pursuit, leading to a Master’s degree and a PhD. After doing research in biology at Stanford for 4 years, I had a good fortune to return to my home country, India, and teach in a new undergraduate college. This gave me a taste for teaching biology, something that allowed me to talk about the subject I love, dabble in other biologists’ ideas and work, and return t…

Brinda G. from Lexington, MA We had discussed the area of biology our son needed help with. Narmada came well prepared having him go through the material including drawing out some cycles. He found it helpful in clarifying some concepts he was struggling with. Would definitely use her again. Helps to discuss in advance the topics in AP biology needing review.

Lavette C. from West Newton, MA In order for my child to succeed in an honor's biology course, I needed to obtain a tutor to ensure his understanding of the material and help him realize his academic goals. Although, Narmada displayed some attitude behavior of irritation, initially I was very impressed with her eagerness started to tutoring and to understand what she needed to know about his situation in order to help him. It didn't hurt that she also resembled my sister-in-law who I absolutely adore. In addition, with only a few hiccups in scheduling, it went well during the two months, until I had to do some checks and balances. To add incentive, I told Narmada that I would give her a bonus if his grade of a B- increased. Well, it went down to a C+, which will now have an effect his GPA when applying the university. It is very important that everyone does their part to make sure the student is getting everything he or she needs. Therefore, when the tutor told me after having the last four sessions that the teacher did not respond to her email for up-coming content material, I was justifiably disappointed to find out someone in the loop dropped the ball. For obvious reasons, it was important that this information was provided during his spring break. However, I knew the teacher would respond. A week after, I asked Narmada if she ever got a response and she replied no. I asked if she wanted me to reach out to the teacher, but Narmada was dismissive and said, "Let's just wait". Well, we could not afford to. My family?s time and money remains finite. Thus, I need the lessons to be focused. It was my duty as my son's advocate to find out why the teacher did not respond and to insure that it didn?t happen again. When I sent a letter to the teacher she informed me that Ms. Narmada's email request had not gone out when Narmada said she had sent it out. It was then that Narmada became agitated and hostile and decided to discontinue working with my son in the middle of the school vacation when he needed a tutor the most. Narmada saw my intentions for my son as a negative act. She even refused to forward the email request she claimed to have sent the teacher. Instead of continuing to cover up her lie by saying that I was causing negativity because I wanted to find out was the truth, she could have just told the truth that she hadn?t sent the email request when she said she had. I would have accepted an apology and my money back for those lost lessons and continued or ended it with her, but she chose to deny the fact that she was the one who dropped the ball, not the teacher and drop my son as a tutee. She clearly demonstrated that she is doing this to cover up her lie.

Robert A. from Boston, MA I was struggling in my General Biology for Engineers course and so I decided to meet with Narmada. She was extremely knowledgeable and helped me gain a much more comprehensive understanding of DNA replication, RNA transcription, and Protein Translation. Narmada was patient and willing to explain anything that I was confused with. I will definitely meet with her again next time I'm struggling.
