I am a well respected professional in the non-profit arts education field, but my passion is music and playing oboe! I want you to develop that passion too! If you love the sound of the oboe, then learning to play it should be a joyful positive experience. I want to teach you the mechanics of playing and the repertoire, but what I hope you learn is how to have confidence in playing, how to project your unique artistic voice, and that playing music is a life-long endeavor to learn.
In addition to learning how to play oboe, I also require that students learn how to make reeds. You’ll be required to purchase reed making equipment and part of our lessons will be on making reeds. At the beginning, I’ll make reeds for you at an additional charge. Or, you can buy them from any reputable sources that I can recommend.
I currently serve as the Principal Oboist of the Ravenswood Community Orchestra in Chicago, take lessons at the Old Town School of Folk Music and perform with a woodwind quintet. My husband is a drummer and we have 3 dogs (that will be in a separate room when you are at my house taking lessons).
Parents of young children are invited to stay at my house during lessons until you are completely comfortable with me. I acknowledge that I didn’t provide a background check, but I assure there there’s nothing there. Google me, you’ll find out more that way.
