Tracy D. from Chicago, IL April worked with my daughter from February thru May 2014. My daughter is smart but struggles with completing assignments, and April focused on her organizational and planning skills as well as basic tutoring in Math, Literature and Spanish. April was pleasant, professional and reasonably priced, and even purchased a book and had my daughter and I take a survey in order to better identify my child's strengths and challenges. She used this information to decide how to best spend the tutoring time with my daughter. I began to see improvement in my child's work and grades, and even hoped that we might be able to work with April next school year with the transition to high school. But sometime in April or so, her schedule became a bit erratic. We did some rescheduling on both ends, but I definitely felt she was not as available, and we had some confusion about our regular tutoring dates. Because I saw improvement with my daughter's work, and the rapport that had been built, I wanted to continue to work with April and told her we could be flexible in order to continue working together for the remainder of the school year. However things did not really improve after that - she kind of indicated indirectly she might not be available due to other issues. We were so close to the end of the school year it was too late for me to find another tutor to work effectively with my daughter, so I told her we could be flexible to finish out the school year. However I received an email that April would not be continuing the tutoring, and I never heard back from her after that. I found out later she had also borrowed two books from my daughter, but we could not get any response from her about returning the books. In the end, April did help my daughter to graduate, and I'm thankful for that. She was pleasant and got along well with my child, but also was able to be firm and push back on her when needed. It was a shame that we were not able to continue with her due to her increasing lack of availability. I liked April but felt she was kind of flaky in the end, and that was a real disappointment. If you need short-term help, I would highly recommend April, and vouch for the quality of her tutoring abilities. But for longer term she was not as reliable for us.
