Undeterred by my complete lack of prior experience in the language, Mariana provided the vision, direction and constant encouragement to begin my journey in Russian from scratch. One of the things that has impressed me most about Mariana is her commitment to preparation for every lesson. She nearly always has more material prepared than we can cover! I know this preparation takes a considerable amount of time and it really pays off during our lessons where we cover a well integrated range of vocabulary, grammar, culture, reading and speaking practice. She is also extremely patient and never discouraged if it takes me a little longer to grasp certain concepts. On more than one occasion after a particularly challenging lesson Mariana has provided additional exercises and instruction on the topic during subsequent lessons until I finally feel comfortable with the subject matter. Mariana is also a constant cheerleader! Whenever I feel discouraged she always has a positive reminder and is quick to point out areas where she sees improvement. She is always upbeat for every lesson and some days I think Mariana is even more excited about me learning Russian than I am! :-) Additionally, Mariana has been able to develop and help keep my focus on the long term goals. It can be easy to get lost in the daily grammar and reading challenges, but Mariana seems to have a plan for ultimately getting me to my final destination of speaking Russian. Her focus gives me the confidence to keep studying! I have and will continue to recommend Mariana to any student interested in studying Russian!
