I am a clarinetist and educator based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I teach clarinet and general music courses at Grand Valley State University. As an orchestral musician, I am the 2nd/Eb clarinetist with the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra, a position I previously held with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. Likewise, I regularly play with orchestras such as the Grand Rapids Symphony, the West Michigan Symphony, Sinfonia da Camera, and the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra. As a committed educator of primary and secondary-aged students, I have and active private teaching schedule, and I spend summers teaching and playing at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and the Illinois Summer Youth Music Pre-College Clarinet Camp.
As a soloist and chamber musician I regularly play recitals at universities throughout the United States. In 2018 in traveled with my clarinet/piano duo, the Amosa Duo, to Tawain to present a series of recitals and master classes. As a member of GVSU’s faculty Wind Quintet, I have traveled to the Czech Republic to give master classes and perform at the Janacek Music Festival.
I can be heard on the GVSU New Music Ensemble’s celebrated recording of Terry Riley’s In C: Remixed and Sinfonia da Camera’s to-be-released recording of Bohuslav Martin’s ballet, Stin. I hold degrees from Grand Valley State University and the University of Colorado-Boulder, and I completed my Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I served as the clarinet studio Teaching Assistant and wrote my thesis on contemporary Finnish clarinet music. My principal teachers include Dr. Arthur Campbell, Daniel Silver, and J. David Harris.
