I spent 20 years in the United States Navy as a Spanish linguist. I am a graduate of the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, CA, and I also lived in the Republic of Panama for five years and was married to a Panamanian who spoke Spanish regularly at home to myself and her daughter. I have also traveled to Costa Rica and lived with a native family for one month while attending a language immersion course. I was also a course facilitator for the Department of Defense for four years.
