Math, Science, and Test Prep Tutor
I believe that tutoring should be done with a goal in mind. It should be a choice that the student makes not the parent and should not be a stressful event. I enjoy working with teenagers and I also enjoy science and math. I teach thinking skills, organizational skills, and help students learn to ask for what they need to succeed.
I have an undergraduate degree in physics from Carnegie Mellon University and a masters in molecular genetics and biochemistry from the University of Pittsbur…
Testimonials
Suzanne A. from Silver Spring, MD Zeroed in on the problem with a solution and went to work right off the bat. Returns phone calls and emails promptly for scheduling and feedback.
John D. from Brookeville, MD Amy came to our house on a Sunday at 6:00 PM (which was the only weekend time that fit both of our schedules). Her initial assessment of the needs of my daughter with both Algebra and Conceptual Physics was very accurate and my daughter was very comfortable with the approach. We're looking forward to beginning a continuing program with Amy.
JIRO K. from Rockville, MD How she teaches is really helpful. Until you get it she keeps helping you. The way she teaches she gives examples and I know right away and I memorize it right away.
Sandy L. from Rockville, MD My son was having difficulty with Honors physics. Amy helped my son understand with more confidence what he had only a shaky knowledge of prior to tutoring. His grade improved dramatically soon after starting their sessions. She also helped him prioritize the different subject areas in studying for the Physics SAT II. She was very easy to schedule sessions with, and made arrangements on quick notice to tutor him several times in the first week when he was in "crisis" mode.
John B. from Rockville, MD Amy is always on time, always knowledgeable and is a great find. She's now moved on to tutoring our second son in Chemistry, after she helped get our first son into Carnegie Melon. Highly recommended.
Pat R. from Gaithersburg, MD Amy worked with my daughter for the past 6 weeks to prepare her to take the final 2 Praxis II exams she needed to pass for her education certification. Amy was immediately was able to identify several weak areas that had not been found by my daughter's other tutors. My daughter has learning disabilities and qualified for extra time on the tests, a reader, and other accommodations and has struggled with passing the Praxis tests for over a year. There were 6 different Praxis II tests that needed to be completed to fulfill her Education program requirement at her college. Amy gave her the confidence that she would pass. Not only did my daughter pass, but she also made over 20 point gains in each test and blew the scores away! It pays to work with the best tutor you can find that can meet the needs of your child. I am forever grateful to Amy for what she was able to do for my daughter in such a short time. Your child would be very fortunate to have Amy as their tutor.
