Credentialed Teacher… Elementary Education, my Dear!!
Thank you for checking in and caring about your child’s education! That’s the first step to us having a fabulous relationship, because I care too!
I have three children, two of them in school, and immense experience dealing with teachers, their expectations, and the standards the State of CA requires in elementary education. My son is now 16 years old, and I have closely followed his education since kindergarten, as well as his speech therapy needs, as a twice exceptional child also involve…
Testimonials
Monika K. from Sacramento, CA She is great with my child. She really knows her stuff, listens very patiently and understands my child's needs very well. She is extremely punctual, has never been late since she started. She has made a strong connection with my child starting from day one. The tutor is doing an excellent job teaching my child exactly what he needs, to the point, and is able to keep my child focused throughout the lesson. I'm extremely happy with her. I would definitely recommend this tutor to someone who is looking for a dedicated person to tutor their child.
Denise S. from Fair Oaks, CA We have a mixed review. We hired Patti with the idea of a long-term tutoring arrangement. Patti's skills at building rapport and working with and getting results from the student are outstanding, however, she has some fairly rigid expectations for homework and parental involvement. Due to our personal circumstances (death in the immediate family), we had some trouble living up to her expectations. Homework she assigned was not 100% complete. Although we were pleased with the progress she was making with our son and ready to commit to a long-term arrangement, she was not satisfied. She informed us after 7 lessons that we were not committed enough and hence she needed to discontinue lessons. What a shame! Our son was totally engaged in the sessions and liked her very much. We were committed enough to be paying for 2 1/2 hours per week and had expected she could be patient considering our circumstances. Our son enjoyed the sessions and we had communicated our desire to continue with tutoring after school started. Patti has really excellent skills, is a lovely person, and we gave her 5 star ratings without hesitation. We do however suggest you make sure you're aware of and on-board with her expectations or you may end up with a disappointed child.
Meera D. from Sacramento, CA Patty S. started tutoring my eight year old son from the end of August, 2013. When she started, my kid hardly wrote a paragraph. He did not know where to start and what to write. He did not know how to formulate his ideas into words, sentences and then paragraphs. Patty worked with him one word at a time. Organization is her strength. She is organized in her thinking, teaching, scheduling her class, writing her report and checking the assignments. She is a thorough professional in this field. She lays foundation by teaching the kid to choose a topic sentence for the subject matter and encouraging them to formulate 3-5 supporting facts, connect them together with conjunctions and finally wrap it up with a conclusion sentence. Having learned the structure of a paragraph, the kids are then encouraged by Patty, to added meat to the skeleton! She teaches them adjectives by urging them to make a list for each of the five senses of smell, taste, sound, sight and touch. Once kids learns adjectives, she gently urges them to select unique words. She teaches them to revise, edit and check for spelling and grammatical mistakes. Without revealing anymore of her unique techniques, I only like to add that she does all these things, by making the kid feel special and not overwhelmed. I am extremely happy with her, and would continue to engage her for my older son as long as her rates stay affordable. And will do the same with my younger son when he is ready!
Amy W. from Sacramento, CA My daughter has been working with Patti for months now and we couldn't have found a better person for her. Patti is very understanding, patient and helps my daughter to see the success that can be achieved through hard work. Not only does Patti get involved with my daughter during the sessions but she provides great updates and is working hard with my daughter's teacher to make sure she gets all the help she can get. My daughter and I love Patti and we don't know where she would be without her!
Teresa B. from Sacramento, CA So, where do I begin? It will be very hard to sum up all of my thoughts about her amazing abilities as a tutor. I will do my best. Patti has been working only a few short weeks with my 6 year old son. He was having trouble with his reading fluency, so we decided to hire a professional tutor. I am SO thankful that I found her on WyzAnt and that she was able to open up her busy schedule to help my son. He adores her already, only after 2 sessions. I can see the confidence building in him and it is heartwarming to see his face light up as he talks about his accomplishments. Patti is very detailed in planning and executing her lessons. She is particularly methodical and organized in her planning, delivery and evaluation. I am a public high school teacher and in my 20 years of teaching, I have never seen anyone quite like her. I am still taking in how amazing she is. On a personal note, she might be the best writer I have ever read. It actually makes me want to try to improve my own writing as it pales in comparison to her perfectly written words. I am crossing my fingers that we can continue working with her as long as her schedule permits. I am grateful beyond words. Patti S is a treasure, truly one of a kind, and anyone should consider themselves lucky if they can obtain her services.
Christlene V. from Elk Grove, CA Patti Slupski is everything I hoped for in a tutor and more. She?s truly exceptional. 1. Generous: When we first met, Patti gave the children two really cute & very functional binders. Well so what you might ask? Well as you know, when someone is generous, they?re so with everything including their time, and Patti is one of the most generous people I have come across in that regard. We meet after each session, and she always take her time to go over the material that was covered, to answer any questions, etc. I have never ever once felt rushed when we meet or as if she?s watching the clock. I once met a tutor who told me that 10 minutes of the 1 hour she was tutoring would be designated to meeting with me after each session. So when you come across someone like Patti, you think your lucky stars! 2.Extremely Organized: When Patti tutors, she has a game plan. All her Is are dotted and all her Ts are crossed before she arrives on the scene. There?s absolutely nothing haphazardly of her tutoring. She knows exactly what she wants to cover and how she wants to go about it. This is truly a blessing. Some tutors are only capable of going over homework and lack creativity and initiative. This would have been a serious problem since the teachers don?t assign writing assignments weekly. 3.Flexible: Although Patti has a game plan, she?s flexible. She has no problem setting all her plans aside to go over a homework assignment with the children when asked. 4.Engaging: The children absolutely adore Patti. She always engages them when she tutors & values their feedback. My children absolutely thrive on that. They know when they talk that she really truly listens to what they?re saying and cares. Patti has taken the time & effort to establish a great rapport with them. 5.Encouraging: Patti does not take our children for granted. She somehow manages to put a positive twist to all of their interactions. When my husband and I tutored the children, we at times felt like we were making them feel inadequate and were chipping away at their self-confidence. That is one of the many reasons we decided to seek a tutor, and Patti is thankfully very aware of a child?s impressionability for her corrections are always made in a positive way and her praises are always genuine. 6.Committed: After each session, Patti sends a detailed summary (via e-mail) of what was covered & reminders of the work she left. The children have never complained that the work Patti requires is too much nor do they have a problem completing them. Neither my husband nor I help them, so they work independently, and Patti goes over the work with them during the next session. Her commitment to the entire process is astounding. Yes, we?re undoubtedly fans of Patti. Thank you so much for what you do. Know that you?re enormously appreciated.
