Over 10 years experience of one-on-one teaching & tutoring. I am familiar with and have utilized many curricula. My research and hands on experience with different learning styles has spanned 10+ years. My philosophy is that a student must be excited about what they are learning in order to succeed. Traditional teaching methods utilized in the classroom do not work for every child, and it is my responsibility as an educator to find what works for EVERY student.

Testimonials
Greg P. from Queen Creek, AZ Our daughter brought home her first C in math so we contacted Laurel. In just a few lessons, her grade is now a B and is already trending to an A per her regular teacher. Our daughter loves her so what more could we ask for. Exceptional knowledge of the subject and very personable. She also provides detailed lesson reviews for us parents. If you are looking for a great tutor, look no further.
Jody M. from Mesa, AZ Laurel has been a fantastic tutor for my daughter. She is very knowledgeable in all of the areas my daughter needed help in. 2nd grade grammar, math, reading comprehension, etc. She was great at adapting to my daughter's personality and very quickly found the best way to bring out the best in my daughter. We noticed a change in her skills within just a few weeks. Even her teacher recently praised my daughter in the areas she was behind. Laurel was able to not only work with my daughter directly, but was able to give me many different tricks in working with her at home to continue to reinforce what she is learning. Overall, we are very pleased with Laurel and my daughter's progress.
Amber L. from Chandler Heights, AZ My third grader needs help in reading, comprehension, and writing. Laurel has been working with him for about a month and a half now, and we have noticed an improvement in these areas. Laurel was very thorough and began by examining his comprehension and writing school work and current report card. She assessed my son to find out what level he was at and which teaching technique would work best for him. My son doesn't complain about the tutoring sessions, as he did with our previous tutor, because Laurel also found a way to engage him in the learning process. My child enjoys the tutoring sessions and I can only contribute this to Laurel, for she discovered a way to connect with him. I think this is the first and a necessary step before a child moves forward, so I look forward to even more progress as Laurel continues to work with my son! Laurel is an asset to my son and I am happy I found her on WyzAnt!
Kelly B. from Queen Creek, AZ Laurel has been working with my daughter for several weeks now and I already see a BIG improvement with her confidence. She is very patient, loving and supportive. Her knowledge of teaching really comes through and she is always prepared. My daughter is always excited to to tutoring, and that says it all in my book. Laurel is an amazing tutor!
Denise P. from Queen Creek, AZ Laurel has worked magic with my daughter. In only a few months we have noticed a huge difference. Not only is she reading better, but Laurel has found the best way to help her learn better study skills. I've gotten numerous emails from my daughter's teachers noticing a difference not only with her work but her confidence too. I'm so lucky to have found a great tutor who knows what she is doing but also cares about my child's needs too.
Karli C. from Gilbert, AZ My first parent teacher conference for my first grader was disappointing to say the least. I received feedback that she was way behind her peers, in danger of being held back and I should pursue getting her tested for IEP classes. After the school did nothing for weeks, I decided to receive help outside of her school. After researching numerous tutors on the site, I decided Laurel sounded like a perfect fit for my daughter. I knew my instincts were right after we all first met. I brought some school work my daughter had done to our visit. Laurel could spot immediately that my daughter was missing some basic phonics which was holding her back on sounding/spelling words effectively. On the first lesson, Laurel and my daughter connected perfect. She found ways for my daughter to grasp the concepts fast and easily remembered. Within weeks, we saw a huge improvement. My next parent teacher conference, my daughter received At Benchmark grades and was not going to be tested for IEP classes. I was so impressed with the progress, I decided to start up lessons for my second grader who was having troubles with math. Once again, the same great results. We have decided to continue through the summer break months with a lesson plan based on their next grade level. To say the least, I'm grateful we chose Laurel. Her constant encouragement and positive feedback to the girls is worth more than I can express.
Tina R. from Chandler Heights, AZ We have used Laurel for several sessions and our son has enjoyed this time. It is great to have one-on-one attention for the areas where he struggles. She is very good at doing different things during the hour that keeps him attentive. Our son is starting to feel confident in his work, and asks questions when he doesn't understand. We would highly recommend Laurel for tutoring. UPDATE: We are now going on two months with Laurel. Our son was failing reading comprehension and just struggled to keep up with his class. He now has a B and just loves to read. He really enjoys his time with Laurel. She is so wonderful.
