Teaching Students to Teach Themselves
I have more than 10 years of tutoring and teaching experience in Hawaii. Cultural and demographic diversity of my clients helped me develop teaching styles suitable to very diverse needs of my students. I tutor both, children and adults. My main focus is in Test Preparation, Mathematics, and Statistics. However, I also worked with students studying Russian, Piano, also beginning Economics and Accounting.
Most of the problems that my students have, result from a failure to install in them the…

Corey N. from Spring Lake, NC I met with her today and what I can say is Amazing! I am currently taking a statistic class and I was really struggling with the homework. After one hour I really understand it. She is worth the investment you won't be dissapointed!
Steve P. from Raeford, NC Alina is an excellent tutor!! I am taking an on-line statistics class and was having trouble understanding the lessons. Alina was able to explain the lessons in a way that I could understand, and I was able complete my assignments. If you are looking for a math tutor(especially for statistics), do your self a favor and hire Alina K. She responded to my email the same day, and scheduled the session the next day. Fast service.
Ahmed F. from Fort Bragg, NC Alina is very patient and proficient in her subject. She is honest and humble. When she doesn't know something she's honest and she finds the answer out. She's a patient tutor, subject matter expert, and does not waste time and very careful to stop the clock when done with instructing.
Dan R. from Wade, NC I am finishing my MA in Procurement and Acquisition and was starting PROC 5870 Pricing Integrity in Contracting, a subject area Alina was somewhat familiar with because the course used the concepts of Statistics. She was very helpful in her instructions, and as we moved through the class most of the formulas and concepts were alien to myself, but not to Alina! She knew them inside and out, and if she herself didn't understand the homework assignment, would take the time to educate herself on the subject and then, and THEN, tutor me on the subject! This class has been the most difficult class I have ever taken EVER, and I am proud to say, because of Alina, I received an A from the Professor who mentioned in an email that my course work and homework assignments were the most professional in appearance and organization and correct in material. Now, understand, their are students in the class that have been doing this JOB for years, I am a novice in this career field! Thank you Alina, and to potential students, I WOULD/WILL USE ALINA IN THE FUTURE WITH NO DOUBTS!
Jerry P. from Bellevue, WA I was over three quarters through with my Masters degree program when I had to take a statistics class. Although I knew math was not my strong suit, I thought I could get by on my own. Since the program is online, there is no student to professor contact. This lack of interaction has not generally been a problem for me. The material in the statistics class became overwhelming for me to understand though. A few weeks into it I felt as though I had been overtaken by a tidal wave and my head was underwater. My grades for individual assignments reflected my frustrations. I reached out in blind faith to Wyzant for help and found Alina, who became my light. Our first session was less than two hours but in that short time, Alina completely transformed my view of statistics. Her expertise in the subject was instantly apparent. With a mastery of the subject and a keen sense of understanding my particular sticking points, she patiently helped me understand the basic concept. This new grasp of the basics allowed me to achieve some degree of confidence and at least got me through an otherwise disastrous week. I continued to meet with Alina throughout the remainder of the course. I met with her about once to twice a week. Each time she guided and helped me understand complex statistical equations. Alina was always mindful of the cost too and was amazingly effective in teaching in short periods. Not only did she help me scrape by; she helped me understand extremely complex statistical concepts resulting in me achieving near perfect grades. To highlight one of the more practical lessons Alina taught me was her tutorial on how to effectively use MS Excel. I have used Excel to some degree throughout my career, but I have never before fully unlocked the possibilities the program has to offer. She showed me how to plug equations into certain cells and program the spreadsheet to calculate several figures with a fair amount of ease. We also used algebra in Excel, which made the drawn out statistical problems much easier to manage. I do not plan to be a statistician in the future, however, I will regularly use the skill Alina taught me with Excel in my professional field. In the end I received a B plus from the class; a class I was destined to fail. Alina was a lifesaver for me and I am forever grateful for her service. I can not express the dedication she showed in tutoring me. I showed up for one session and Alina was visibly ill with the flu. She refused to let me leave and guided me through another difficult week while she was sick. Perhaps it was luck finding the perfect tutor in my first try online, I was definitely fortunate to have found Alina. I fully recommend her to anyone considering using a tutor for math.
Elizabeth M. from Everett, WA Alina is tutoring our daughter for the SAT. Our daughter felt comfortable with her right away, but more importantly Alina is identifying her weak areas and having her work on them at home as well as with her. We feel very fortunate to have found her! We would give her five stars! Update: Her SAT scores went up quite a bit after working with Alina. Now Alina is tutoring our daughter in math, and again doing an excellent job. We are so grateful to have Alina helping our daughter!
Jeanne A. from Edmonds, WA Alina is SO worth her weight in Gold for those parents that need someone to take the ball and run with it! She is not someone who just sits with your child for an hour and helps him with whatever the student says he needs help with. She digs deeper! She makes sure the student is looking at the Big Picture along with the small details of the next homework assignment due. She helps them longer if they need the time to ?get it' and cuts the session short if they can do it independently. She emails parents to let them know where their kiddo is at, where he needs to go, and what he needs to get there. She started with my son in Nov., at which point he was struggling in Statistics. In fact, at that time, his Statistics teacher had already mentioned that he ?might not want to do a 2nd semester of Statistics.' By January, with Alina?s dedicated support, he completed the class with a ?B' and with the teacher pulling him aside and commenting, ?I?m glad you decided to stay and take the 2nd semester in this class.? Dedication, hard worker, math whiz, and integrity! Definitely the cream of the crop!
Stephanie R. from Edmonds, WA My teenage daughter loved Alina. She gave her very good advice about preparing for the SAT test. Alina was able to immediately detect the areas that my daughter needed extra help with. She is very knowledgeable and patient, we will definitely contact Alina again for future testing and math tutoring!
