While tutoring students, I like to think of myself as Dumbledore or Gandalf. I don’t have a sweet beard or magic powers (yet), but I do pop up at key junctions in the story and point the hero in the right direction. I like this metaphor because in both the magical world and in my meetings with students, I’m not the hero, the student is – the student destroys the horcruxes or throws the Ring into Mount Doom, sometimes he or she just needs a little help to do it!
