Experienced Tutor

I have been tutoring since 1976 and am proficient in all subjects except Chemistry, Physics and Calculus. For 16 years, I ran a small Christian school, one-room, multi-age, in which my students gained, on average a year and a half for every year they studied with me.

I am currently taking a break from this very rigorous activity but miss teaching, so I thought a couple of tutoring students might be just the ticket. I have a Master’s in Education and have a great deal of experience with ’q…

Deborah W. from Mount Morris, MI Alicia seems to understand some of the strengths & weaknesses of my 10th grader but since we got off to a slow start it may take sometime. Tutor was not available the first week which meant we have to schedule sessions twice per week to try and get ahead of what the child is covering in class. This requires me having to adjust the budget to accommodate. I was very pleased with little phrases Alicia is teaching to help my gd. daughter remember various concepts. The flash cards are great as well. I am hopeful things will improve. Both student and teacher seem to be working towards the same goals. There seem to be many challenges with our sessions. Alicia has been late to two sessions which means we stay later. The girls still have other school work and chores. Since they come from school straight to the tutor there is little wind down time. My grand daughter does not feel Alicia tries to find out what specific areas in math she does know she just assumes she doesn't know. This is a very important concern because the map for success is to build up confidence and guide into the unknown. I feel as though I'm in a catch "22"; the other tutors are already booked and the remainder don't fit into my schedule. Math is the only subject that is keeping mu granddaughter from the honor roll. I feel I'm forced to stay the course. On the other hand Alicia does seem to know the subjects quite well. Hopeful things will get better. Session 6- Tutor on time for session. Pleased with readiness of both the student and tutor. My granddaughter did not have any assignments from school nor did she remember to bring her flash cards. Alicia indicated they worked on reviewing previous information and concepts she thought she may be introduced to in the future. My granddaughter seems to be learning skills and seems comfortable with tutor. I think things are looking up. 01/22/14 Session went well. Will continue and see how student progresses. 01/08/14 Alicia was 30 min. late per my husband who took the girls to this session. Not sure how session actually went. I'm only paying for her time with my child. I did not rate session because I did not attend.
