The Children’s Learning Center is a quality facility designed to meet the growing child care needs of New Jersey City University student-parents. The curriculum is developed in response to the childrens interests, while facilitating the physical, social/emotional, language/literacy, and cognitive needs of the children. The center offers a preschool class, a pre-kindergarten class, and an after school and Saturday program. The center provides flexible schedules that are responsive to the needs of student-parents. The center also serves as a training site, providing high quality field experiences for NJCU students.

Play is a childs work. Early childhood teachers work involves understanding, encouraging, and facilitating play in young childrens lives. The center considers the most current understanding of child development, childrens learning styles, age-appropriate activities, experiential learning, multiculturalism and performance-based assessment in creating its curriculum for the children. It is both child-centered and results oriented, the results being socialization skills, love of learning, and valuing self. Children learn that they have many choices from which to select their activities all day long. Encouraged to think independently and creatively, the children know that they are respected and valued as autonomous and unique. Parents are welcome to be as involved as they choose to be. They may come for lunch, participate in activities, or seek guidance and counsel. Visitors to the center will find happy children, a warm nurturing climate, and the sounds of music and laughter.
