Child Care Assistance in Pennsylvania

Parents looking for ways to help afford child care in Pennsylvania can consider Head Start programs in their area. The state’s Child Care Information Services helps pay for qualified family’s child care through the subsidized child care program.In order to receive the assistance, families must meet specific standards. They must live in Pennsylvania and have a child who needs care while the parents work or attend an educational program.Those applying must either work at least 20 hours per week or be enrolled in an approved educational program. If they are not working, they must have proof of employment within the next 30 days. Each parent or caretaker must be able to provide proof of identification. Eligibility is based on family size and household income.A family must make 200% or less than the Federal Poverty Line. A co-payment will be expected from the parent(s), but may be as little as $5 per week. To apply, view the application online.

Many programs use the Federal Poverty Line as a guide for financial assistance with child care. If your annual income is at or below the poverty line, you may qualify for financial help. These are the guidelines:


  • A family of 1 must make less than $11,490 per year.

  • A family of 2 must make less than $15,510 per year.

  • A family of 3 must make less than $19,530 per year.

  • A family of 4 must make less than $23,550 per year.

  • A family of 5 must make less than $27,570 per year.

  • A family of 6 must make less than $31,590 per year.

  • A family of 7 must make less than $35,610 per year.

  • A family of 8 must make less than $39,630 per year.
